Drawing the Lines for Climate and Social Justice: John Sultan Toly Calls for a Global Citizen Mobilization Against Authoritarian and Ecocidal Abuses

Ahead of COP30 and in the tense context of the United Nations General Assembly, citizen movements from around the world are rising to denounce climate inaction, structural inequalities, democratic backsliding, and the domination of multinational corporations. From September 19 to 21, the Global Days of Action saw thousands of voices unite against environmental destruction and authoritarian regimes, the watchword, draw the lines. John Sultan Toly, local environmental defender and community organizer in Central Africa, calls for intensifying the struggle for a just, sustainable, and democratic future, where people reclaim control over their lives and territories.

A Global Uprising Against Organized Chaos

Faced with climate tyranny and systemic injustice, people are mobilizing from their streets, villages, and universities, from human chains to social strikes, including targeted actions in front of multinational headquarters and fossil fuel extraction sites, this global mobilization marks a turning point, it affirms a clear refusal of authoritarianism, patriarchy, and destructive capitalism, drawing red lines to protect life, the planet, and future generations.

Ituri Rises for Environmental Justice: John Sultan Toly and Local Communities Draw the Lines for a Sustainable Future

As part of the Global Days of Action, John Sultan Toly, local environmental defender and community organizer in Ituri, gathered local actors on September 21 to identify ecological impacts threatening the province, the goal, to build a collective reflection base to protect ecosystems essential to community survival. This mobilization is part of a global movement aimed at regaining control over our ecological, social, and economic future, in the face of climate injustice and the abusive exploitation of resources.

A United African Voice for a Just and Equitable Transition

On September 20, John Sultan Toly, alongside 21 African activists from several countries, raised high the demands stemming from the School for Environmental Justice organized by Groundwork and the Africa Just Transition Network (AJTN). Together, they demand systemic change, a rapid and feminist exit from fossil fuels, promotion of agroecology, and funding for sustainable community solutions, they call to tax multinational corporations, cancel unjust debts, and strengthen public services, aiming for a transition centered on people, nature, and future generations.
