When the people confront fossil fuel giants to demand climate justice
On September 30, 2025, a historic moment took place in Cape Town during the African Energy Week meetings: Greenpeace Africa activists directly confronted oil industry leaders, presenting them with a giant invoice for the climate and social damage caused across Africa. While energy elites continued discussing the exploitation of African resources without considering its people, these courageous activists reminded them that the era of impunity is over.
Dividing Africa to better plunder it: a model under fire
The discussions at this event aimed to accelerate oil extraction at the expense of local communities and ecosystems. In response, the activists denounced the colonial energy model, where profits are privatized while consequences (pollution, displacement, disease, food insecurity) are left to populations. This direct confrontation marks a turning point in citizen resistance against fossil multinationals.
Sign to make polluters pay: an essential civic act
Greenpeace Africa, with the support of engaged figures such as Emmanuel Ndimwiza, is calling for mobilization through an international petition to make polluters pay and to back a just energy transition.
