Activists demand justice for communities affected by the fossil fuel industries in Africa
At Africa Energy Week in Cape Town, activists from Greenpeace Africa staged a powerful act by symbolically presenting a climate bill to major oil and gas companies. This action aims to denounce the devastating impacts of fossil fuels on Africa’s climate, including floods, droughts, food insecurity, and the mass displacement of populations. Through this gesture, Greenpeace demands that historical polluters be held accountable for the damage they have caused.
NO to fossil fuel projects, YES to a just transition
The activists are calling on African citizens and people worldwide to reject new fossil fuel exploitation projects backed by certain multinationals and African governments. They stress the urgency of moving toward renewable energy solutions that are sustainable and community-centered, to preserve the planet and ensure a livable future for generations to come.
A citizen call for immediate climate action
As part of this mobilization, Greenpeace Africa invites everyone to sign an online petition demanding climate justice and insisting that polluters pay. The message is clear, it is time for those responsible for environmental crises to be held to account and to finance the ecological transition. The movement has been launched under the slogan #MakePollutersPay.
