Youth Committed to a Just Transition: In DRC, the Climate Generation Says No to the 52 Oil Blocks

Voix du Paysan to train and inform citizens: a commitment to social and climate justice.

Towards a Future Without Imposed Oil Projects

On Saturday, September 6th, as part of preparations for the Global Week of Climate Action, young Congolese leaders gathered to discuss the controversial project of the 52 oil blocks in the DRC. This exchange provided an opportunity to analyze the ongoing impacts of over two decades of oil exploitation on local communities. Despite promises of development, affected populations continue to live in poverty, facing pollution, displacement, and human rights violations.

An Aware Youth, a United Voice

In response to this alarming reality, participants chose not to remain silent. Together, they voiced their rejection of a future dictated by destructive energy models. They pledged to amplify the voices of forgotten communities and urged decision-makers to invest in renewable energy. Their mobilization reflects a clear vision: to build a resilient, green, and socially just DRC.

On the Road to a Just Transition in DRC

This gathering marks the beginning of a broader movement. Young people intend to influence public debate and propose concrete solutions for a Just Transition in the DRC. Through their actions, they demand a new direction—one that respects human rights, protects ecosystems, and paves the way for a sustainable future for all. The message is clear: the fight continues.
