Michee N’kwady: A Young Congolese Man Fighting Plastic Pollution in Kinshasa

Voix du Paysan: Educating and empowering citizens for social and climate justice.

In response to the growing ecological emergency in the Congolese capital, Michee N’kwady, a committed young man from the DRC, has decided not to remain a bystander. In a city of over 12 million people that produces more than 9,000 tons of waste daily—of which less than 10% is collected—plastic pollution has become a real threat. Streets, rivers, and farmlands are overwhelmed by plastic waste, endangering both public health and environmental balance.

Disturbed by this reality, Michee N’kwady launched a bold campaign on the VUMA.earth platform to raise awareness and spark action. His aim is to alert, educate, and above all, propose local, sustainable, and inclusive solutions to this crisis. For Michee, every citizen has the power to become a changemaker by adopting new habits toward plastic waste.

The campaign promotes eco-friendly alternatives, community recycling, and, most importantly, source reduction. Michee firmly believes that transforming Kinshasa depends on youth involvement and collective responsibility. He urges decision-makers to support grassroots initiatives and implement effective, equitable waste management policies.

Through his commitment, Michee N’kwady embodies a new generation ready to take charge of their communities’ future. His campaign is a vibrant call to action for a cleaner, more resilient, and fairer city. He reminds us that every action matters and that Africa holds the keys to overcoming its environmental challenges.
