Empowering Rural Voices to Educate and Mobilize Citizens: A Commitment to Social and Climate Justice
As oil activities intensify in Uganda’s Albertine region, the social, health, and environmental impacts weigh heavily on local communities. In response to this silent crisis, the Centre for Environmental Research and Agriculture (CERA) is taking action on the front lines to empower small-scale farmers. Through agroecology, these farmers are gradually reclaiming control over their livelihoods, rebuilding food security, and promoting sustainable agriculture rooted in ancestral knowledge.

Preserving Traditional Knowledge to Feed the Future
Agroecology is more than just a farming technique—it is a tool for resistance and empowerment. By valuing indigenous knowledge, CERA is helping to build strong food sovereignty adapted to climate challenges and the disruptions caused by extractive industries. This model respects ecosystems while ensuring communities have fair access to food, land, and natural resources—where oil giants threaten the delicate balance of life.
