Voix du Paysan: educating and informing citizens as a commitment to social and climate justice.
While TotalEnergies proudly celebrated its centennial in 2024, many African communities had nothing to celebrate. Across the continent, the legacy of the oil giant’s operations is marked by environmental destruction, forced displacement, loss of livelihoods, and human rights violations. From the Niger Delta to Uganda, the suffering of local populations starkly contrasts with the corporate festivities of the French oil major.
Projects such as the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), backed by TotalEnergies, continue to spark outrage among local communities and environmental activists. This 1,400 km pipeline threatens sensitive ecosystems, protected areas, and vital water sources. In response, the #StopEACOP movement, led by grassroots organizations, demands the immediate halt of this destructive project and advocates for a transition to renewable energy rooted in justice and respect for human rights.
#StopEACOP stands as a powerful voice against corporate climate impunity. As a community-driven movement, it strengthens grassroots mobilization, amplifies the voices of affected people, and pressures policymakers to stop fossil fuel expansion in Africa. A just and sustainable future cannot be built on the ashes of communities sacrificed for profit.
